How to measure your door frame

Floodshield's come in 6 standard width sizes and are 58cm, or roughly 2 feet high so fit nearly all inward opening residential doors.

To work out which size you need measure between the brickwork as shown in measurement A.

Choose the Floodshield size which is nearest to, but not larger than the measurement to allow the barrier to clip to and seal against the outside surface of the doorframe.

The barrier must overlap onto the doorframe a minimum of 1½" (38mm) each side.

  • The Floodshield's clips come in two lengths to accommodate different depth frames; one for standard frames and another for thin frames. Although the clips are adjustable, the thin depth door frames found on UPVC doors need a considerably shorter clip than standard frames. Floodshields come with clips for standard door frames as these fit the majority of doors.

If you have a thin door frame then add a note to your order in the cart, or contact the team.

How to install the barrier

To install your Floodshield Barrier, first clean the doorway area to ensure an effective seal. Adjust the barrier's clips to match your door frame's width, loosening them slightly for easier alignment. Ensure the barrier is centered and level, then press it firmly against the door frame and secure by fastening the clips. Finally, inspect the seal around the entire perimeter to ensure there are no gaps. A comprehensive, watertight seal is crucial for effective flood protection.

Great product and company

This robust shield is of fibre glass material utilising a corrugated shield for strength and rigidity. Surrounding the corrugated shield is a moulded flat frame providing a mating surface against the door frame. A high quality rubber? seal is fixed to this surface to give a waterproof seal.

The metal fixings allow a row of steel hooks to clamp the floodshield firmly against the door frame, thus providing a barrier but allowing the door to open for access.
Pros:
High quality well engineered product.
Easy and quick to fit.
Great after service and communication.

Con:

The metal 'hooks' have sharp edges. Might benefit from a light linishing or maybe plastic caps. To protect fingers and door seals.

Good barrier for the price

Good barrier, but fiddly to fit. I have arthritis in my fingers, so a lever type closure to the door frame would be easier and possibly a tighter fit. Other than that, it keeps the majority of the water out with some leakage, but that is probably due to my inability to tighten sufficiently.

Not convinced !

I used my flood shield in January 2024.
Fitting to the door frame was rather fiddly but not time consuming, however, fitting to the threshold was another matter. The clips supplied do not allow much pressure to be exerted onto the threshold of the doorframe, where it is most needed. On this occasion flood water did not come over the threshold, so the barrier was not put to the test. I am unconvinced that the bottom seal would have held out water, because of the difficulty in exerting downward pressure onto the the threshold.

We had to re design them as they didnt fit any of our doors.

As yet untested

Although the barriers look the part, are sturdy and can be deployed rapidly, I've not used them in an emergency, so can't truly comment on their efficacy. They are expensive and were rather slow to be delivered, and also need to be stored in an easily accessible location. However, they do provide peace of mind.

Frequently asked questions

Do flood barriers really work?

Yes they do. Floodshield has been extensively tested in flood test facilities, and of course by customers in real life flood situations.

What size door will a Floodshield protect?

Floodshield will protect most residential single doors: from 760mm wide to 960mm wide.

How do I know if I need a Standard Floodshield or a uPVC Floodshield?

uPVC Floodshields are only for use with doorframes that have a continuous bottom threshold. All other doors require a Standard Floodshield.

My doorframe is very deep. Will your clips reach the frame?

Our Floodshields come fitted with standard 50mm bolts. Longer bolts can be supplied if required.

How easy is it to fit a Floodshield?

Very easy. Floodshield was designed knowing that sometimes you have to fit it in an emergency. Simply wind the clips to the length you want, and press into place.

Do you really not need any tools or permanent attachments to my home?

You really don't! You don't need to have any ugly attachments to your building, or find the tool box when there is a flood warning. Simply take the Floodshield out from storage and clip it into place.

How tall is the Floodshield?

Floodshield is 58cm high, or roughly 2 feet.

How much does a Floodshield weigh?

A Floodshield weighs only 5kg and so can be carried and fitted by most people from 8 to 80+!

How long will the Floodshield Barrier last if used regularly?

The Floodshield Door Barrier will last indefinitely as a result of the materials used in its design - it is made of tough Polypropylene rather than cheap wood like some barriers. And all attachments are fixed the barrier so you don't have to worry about loosing them when you need them most.

What warranty do I get?

2 Years warranty and 60 days money back guarantee.
